TWU CAMPAIGN:

ROAD TO RESPECT

In September of 2024, TWU Bus Delegates representing over 2500 bus drivers across WA, endorsed the "Road to Respect" campaign to force fair wages, safer buses and fair conditions for all WA bus drivers.

The campaign focuses on achieving standardised conditions for all WA bus drivers. The TWU is calling on the State Government to apply a standard set of wages and conditions for all bus drivers, regardless of which private contractor employs them.

The campaign has four areas of focus:

  1. Same Job, Same Pay

  2. Better safety and security for drivers and passengers on our buses

  3. Dignity in retirement

  4. Job security

  5. Building Power

Our Progress

The TWU and our bus driver members have been working relentlessly, building power at bus depots

ROAD TO RESPECT EXPLAINER

We are Calling for Bus Security Guards to be Brought Back In-House

Security on public buses in Perth is not fit for purpose. It is contracted out to companies that are not able to properly deal with the disruption and dangers toward bus drivers and other passengers who just want to get to work in peace.

There are also only around 30 Wilson’s security cars available to cover areas between Alkimos and Mandurah for over 1500 buses. They are limited in peak hours and on weekends - which is when dangerous and antisocial behaviour is most likely to occur.

Sign this petition to call on the Minister for Transport to rectify security concerns on buses by improving availability, increasing security cars, increasing coverage, and to bring security back in house to re-design transit security to cover the Transperth Metronet network appropriately and safely.

This will help keep bus drivers safe at work and make Perth's public transport system safer and more comfortable for passengers.

Sign the petition now!

We, the undersigned, are calling on the Minister for Transport to bring bus security in-house and under the authority of Transit Guards to properly protect drivers and passengers on buses.
