Safer Roads, Stronger Enforcement
A Crackdown on Non-compliance
The TWU is calling for a coordinated, multi-agency crackdown on unsafe practices in the transport industry.
Heavy vehicles are involved in 15%-18% of all road fatalities but make up just 3% of registered vehicles.
At the same time, drivers are often not at fault when crashes occur.
This points to a system under pressure:
By bringing together police, the Road Safety Commission, Main Roads, WorkSafe and DMIRS into a single compliance system, we can track breaches in real time, target high-risk operators, and hold companies accountable.
Because right now, too many are slipping through the cracks.
Non-compliance issues on WA roads: Targeting the Real Risks
Unsafe operators are cutting corners on our roads with weak and inconsistent enforcement. This endangers everyone.
Drivers are working in a mobile workplace, sharing the road with the public every day. When something goes wrong, the consequences are widespread.
What needs to change
Shared compliance database across agencies
Coordinated, intelligence-led inspections
Real accountability for companies doing the wrong thing
