The TWU Welcomes Cook Government’s Decisive Plan for Regional Fuel Response
The Transport Workers Union (TWU) supports the Cook Labor Government’s decision to enact emergency powers to monitor fuel supply chains to ensure regional WA is receiving enough fuel.
From as early as tomorrow, these changes will come into effect, allowing the government to obtain crucial data and information from fuel suppliers to aid regional workers WA.
Energy and Decarbonisation Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson will use these emergency powers to ensure key sectors, including regional transport workers, get the fuel they need to keep the state moving.
While some companies have already provided this information to the WA Government following a letter written by the Premier last week, other providers have failed to do so, prompting action.
Comments Attributable to TWU WA State Secretary Tim Dawson:
“Today’s announcement heeds the calls of our regional community by providing some much-needed fuel relief to these isolated areas.”
“The transport industry needs a government that will act fast to ensure that transport workers can continue to do their jobs sustainably, and that is what the WA Premier has ensured happens today.”
“The TWU will continue to work with the WA Government during this crisis to ensure the voices of our members are heard and that the transport industry is supported to keep moving through times of economic struggle.”
