You Lucky Bugger

Now that's what we call a double-barrelled shot gun!

There’s not much that happens in transport that doesn’t find its way to my Wheel editor’s desk.

We received graphic pictures of this little mishap back in January.

The incident occurred just outside the Dampier Supply base.

The truck wasn’t travelling fast by any means but the driver had to stand on his brakes and give way at an intersection and the pictures tell the rest.

Luckily the driver was only bruised and in a bit of shock....he won the LOTTO of LIFE that day.

No names, no finger pointing but there are obvious lessons to be learned from the incident.

The load was clearly not restrained correctly and the truck had NO HEAD BOARD.

We are told photos of the incident were sent to Worksafe who declined to investigate because, ‘no one had made a complaint’.

We find that quite incredible. The driver could easily have been killed in the incident and Worksafe should have acted.

The security of your load, your life and the life of others relies on proper load restraint practices.

The TWU is giving away 30 copies of the current edition of the current Load Restraint Guide.

The 268 page book is published by National Transport Commission. It was last updated in 2004 but is the current guide.
