New Federal Government - super policy changes

With the Coalition Government now in place, some of the key changes for super outlined in the Coalition’s policy for Superannuation are:

  • a two year delay for further Super Guarantee contribution rate increases leaving the rate at 9.25% until 2016. The planned increase to 12% will be delayed until 1 July 2021
  • revisit concessional contribution cap limits and the co-contribution scheme after the Federal Budget returns to a surplus
  • plans to streamline small business super reporting by moving the small business super clearing house from Medicare to the ATO
    • review the minimum draw down amounts for account-based pensions to ensure they are adequate and appropriate depending on current market conditions.
