Toll Boosts Pay Offer

« Back to News Articles Toll Boosts Pay Offer

Toll Boosts Pay OfferThe TWU’s 2013 pay campaign was hotting up as the Wheel went to press after the union rejected the Toll Group’s first two offers.

The company had initially proposed pay rises of 3%+3%+3% in a three year deal during tense negotiations in Sydney.

This and a second improved offer fell short of the TWU’s claim and the firm’s managers were told they would need to do better.

A third and "final offer" was then put on the table in a proposed four year agreement. It included:

  • 3% pay rise on 1st July 2013.
  • 4% pay rise on 1st July 2014.
  • 4% pay rise on 1st July 2015
  • 4% pay rise on 1st July 2016

Toll will also increase its superannuation contribution to 12.25% on 1st July 2013. And that is 3% above what the vast majority of Australian workers receive.

However the overall Toll offer falls short of the TWU claim.

Your national union has asked for annual pay rises of 4%.

We are also demanding job security clauses and responsible management of the use of outside hire.

Job security is always a high priority issue for the TWU and its members.

And recent evidence of an economic downturn makes protecting our members’ jobs even more important.

Toll negotiations have now been underway for over two months.

Our delegates have been fully involved and there have been regular report back meetings to members in all Toll yards.

In WA members have raised a number of local issues that need addressing and Toll management have promised to consult separately with us on these.

Of course that doesn’t necessarily mean they agree to accept our claims.

However, our members have passed resolutions stating that they will be prepared to consider taking protected action in support of our campaign.

This is designed to maintain maximum pressure on Toll while negotiations proceed.

We still have a long way to go before the agreement is nailed down.

Thanks to all our Toll delegates for the work they have done, with special credit to Wayne Price(Toll Woolworths), Brian Moody(Toll Coles), Steve Denridder(Toll Kmart) and Terry McInnes(Toll Mining Services Port Hedland).

Wayne, Brian, Steve and Terry have been flying back and forth with myself and our organisers for the negotiations over east.

This can be quite draining but the boys have stuck to the task and done us proud.
