Put Yourself in the Bus Drivers Seat

« Back to News Articles Put Yourself in the Bus Drivers Seat
Delegates and leaders from across the bus industry met with Rita Saffiotti (ALP Shadow Minister for Transport), and Kate Doust (ALP Shadow Minister for Industrial Relations) to talk about how Government can support Drivers in their efforts on safety.

TWU Members believe that Safety & Security on the public transport System is of the utmost importance.

Bus drivers, passengers and Security guards have the right to come home to their families everyday unharmed physically or emotionally.

Passenger Transport Workers deserve a safe work environment free from spitting, rock throwing, verbal and physical abuse.

TWU Members call on the Western Australian State Government to review:
  • The use of Perspex screens to protect drivers from spitting, and having fluids thrown at them
  • A cashless system as fare evasion leads to income losses for the government and increases violent behaviour towards drivers
  • The current Public Transport Security System to address:
  • Support for the current Security Guards
  • Security numbers, powers of arrest, and more communication with drivers
  • And engage in an ongoing dialogue with TWU and its members in the Public Transport System to ensure safety for everyone
It will take all Bus Drivers coming together to make change, but TWU Delegates and members have a strong plan and are determined to see improvements!
