Happy at Centurion

Both sides were happy with the outcome of negotiations between the TWU and Centurion Transport on their North West agreement.

On a 45 hour week, MC Drivers will be $390 better off overall, HR Drivers $250 and Freight Officers $100. And this doesn’t take into account an increase to the housing subsidy.

As all hours worked will now be paid at a composite rate, the hourly pay for each of these categories has been substantially increased.

  • Freight Officers will be paid $35.00per hour
  • HR drivers will be paid $38.00per hour
  • HC/MC Drivers will be paid $41.00per hour

Centurion, the TWU and your Reps worked hard over the past few months in reaching what we all think it is a reasonable deal.

Special thanks to our reps: Jessein Pt Hedland, Craig in Karratha, Simon in Newman and Reno in Tom Price

In the end there was a general acceptance that ultimately job security is key.

Centurion, the TWU and the employee reps understand that whilst the rental prices have slowed down, housing and living costs in the Pilbara are higher than in other areas of the state.

As all hours worked will now be paid at a composite rate, the hourly pay for each of these categories has been substantially increased.

Because of the substantial increases to the composite rate, annual leave and superannuation payments will also increase.

The housing subsidy was also increased immediately to $600 from $500 per week (18%). It will then increase every 12 months by $50 up to $700per week by the end of the agreement.

This amounts to an increase of around $5,200 in the first year $8,000 in the second year and $10,000 in the third year.

Meal allowance will go to $22.80 and a $65 overnight allowance will be paid when drivers are not put up in accommodation by the company.

We all believe this agreement represents a fair deal for all parties involved and we expect it to be strongly supported by drivers.
