Bus contracts up for grabs

« Back to News Articles

Once again it’s time we had a look around the network to see what’s going on to keep everyone in the loop.

The major buzz around the Transperth depots at present is about contract tenders.

Morley, Bayswater and Midvale, Ellenbrook and Mundaring Depots are all up for grabs.

All the current incumbents are bidding along with new kids on the WA block – Adams and Ventura.

Ventura is the mob who brought out Grendas over in Victoria, so they are pretty close to Path Transit in philosophy.

Many of the staff are either from, or acquainted with, the way Path Transit operate.

This time around the PTA have actually included a document outlining the way incoming and outgoing contractors must deal with staff.

This is a great idea as it’s now in black and white covering about five pages, rather than the two sentences stating that successful tenderers are required to take 90% of staff……

We are keeping a close eye on things and have spoken to each of the tenderers to gauge their intents as far as staffing goes.

Tenders close around the 19th of September with the formal announcement scheduled for December 24th (who thought that one up?).

However we should know well ahead of this who the winners and losers are.

Takeover is in April next year. As soon as we know what’s going on we will call meetings in the relevant depots.

Affected drivers need to think seriously about TWU membership if they aren’t already. It may be all that separates getting some consultation happening or taking what you are given….

And despite the confident mutterings of some drivers, that are actually doing nothing more than unsettling the rest, the eventual outcomes are totally unknown at this stage.
